Mike retired in December 2010 after a 30-year career at Cox Enterprises Inc., a leading media company and provider of automotive services, as Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer. In this position, he was responsible for Cox’s supply chain services, energy management and fleet management departments and Cox Newsprint Supply, a Cox subsidiary that supplied Cox-owned newspapers as well as external newsprint consumers. In 2007, he created and led “Cox Conserves” – Cox’s award winning energy conservation and environmental sustainability program. Prior to this position, he was VP of Materials Management for Cox Communications, the broadband communications division of Cox Enterprises.
Before joining Cox in 1980, Mike was Director, Engineering & Manufacturing for Olympic Manufacturing, a subsidiary of Sara Lee Corporation. He immigrated to the US in 1978 from South Africa where he held various procurement, materials management, project management and production management positions in the South African steel and mining equipment manufacturing industries. Mike has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Natal in Durban, South Africa and an MBA from the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa. Born and raised in Durban, he has lived in the Atlanta area since 1978. He is married with two daughters and a grandson.
